FABIO CONCATO FABRIZIO BOSSO JULIAN OLIVER MAZZARIELLO “NON SMETTO DI ASCOLTARTI”
There are some songs you just can’t stop listening to. Fabio Concato (vocals), Fabrizio Bosso (trumpet), and Julian Mazzariello (piano) certainly haven’t, and their record “Non smetto di ascoltarti” (I won’t stop listening to you) is the title of a project they are co-working on (the record has been released on March 6th, by Warner Music). A joint venture to reinterpret some of the most popular songs in the history of Italian songwriting.
There were no limits to the choice of songs: from “Mille lire al mese”, via “L’arcobaleno”, to “Diamante”, and “Io che amo solo te”. The selection also includes some of the most successful songs by Fabio Concato, and songs released by other songwriters.
The three musicians say of the album, “Non smetto di ascoltarti came up spontaneously, while we were on stage. There’s no premeditation on what we do, making music together is natural and necessary. After extensive touring, it became as natural as staring at what we have accomplished, stage after stage. Each one of us brings his own emotions, and what comes out is a unique, unrepeatable moment of truth, yet constantly renovated.
This album is meant to share our love for these songs both with our audience, and with the authors.
The story of this music partnership dates back to 2001, when Fabrizio Bosso and Fabio Concato featured counter bassist Massimo Moriconi on his album. After the release of the album, the pair toured together, but never met until 2014, when Concato invited Bosso to share the stage at the Teatro Petruzzelli of Bari. This collaboration helped them rediscover their immediate complicity in performing.
Shortly after this performance, Bosso and Mazzariello recorded “Tandem” and invited Fabio Concato to perform his remarkable Gigi, a song he dedicated to his father, who also introduced him to the world of jazz.
This experience laid the foundations for “Canzoni”, a show the new established trio brought across Italy. Eternal classic songs are revisited, almost taking the shape of brand new songs.
The project, which was born while performing on stage all over Italy, is meant to redesign classics such as “La casa in riva al mare”, or “Scrivimi”, in order to relaunch their expressive capacity. The unique voice of Concato, alongside Bosso’s elegant trumpet and the vital energy of the accordion player Mazzariello, pay tribute to the lyrics and the melodies of some of the greatest Italian artists. Dalla, Endrigo, De Gregori, Concato himself. Jazz flowing through the veins of the three artists has done the rest.
