There are quite a few dissimilarities between Fabrizio Bosso and Giovanni Guidi’s personal paths and aesthetic choices: at the young age of 17, pianist Guido was singled out by Enrico Rava who from then on invited him to collaborate in many of his projects. In addition to his ongoing collaborations with Rava, Guido also performs with other important combos as well as his own trio and quintet. After several recordings for CAM Jazz, Guidi now records for the prestigious label ECM, with which he has four records to date as leader. Internationally renowned trumpeter Bosso has recorded albums as leader for Blue Note, Verve and now Warner. When in the summer 2017 the two musicians met at Umbria Jazz, Guidi on stage with Enrico Rava’s Quartet and Tomasz Stanko, and Bosso with his own “Gillespie: The Champ” project, they together decided to join forces on a project that would propel them beyond the boundaries of their own musical quests, proving that in jazz one can always find common ground on which to build something new. To achieve this ambition Bosso and Guidi invited three rising stars of the New York jazz scene to form the quintet: Aaron Burnett, tenor sax who has taken New York by storm (Wynton Marsalis, Esperanza Spalding, Kurt Rosenwinkel), Dezron Douglas, the virtuoso and dynamic double bassist lauded by the New York Times for his “deep and soulful sound,” (Ravi Coltrane, Louis Hayes, Cyrus Chestnut) and Joe Dyson, one of the most young sought-after drummers around.
