Giovanni Guidi and Fabrizio Bosso have trodden different paths: Guidi, a visionary pianist and refined composer who has long collaborated with Enrico Rava, after several recordings on CAM Jazz now records for the prestigious label ECM, with four albums as leader to date. Trumpeter Fabrizio Bosso, whose intense and versatile playing has won him international reputation, has recorded many discs as leader for Blue Note, Verve and currently Warner.
The two musicians had often crossed paths backstage, and in 2017 they decided to join forces in a project that would push them beyond the frontiers of their individual musical quests.
In this new project Francesco Bearzatti, who has collaborated with either musician at different times, naturally came in as a uniting force: the tenor saxophonist’s playing ranges, with great creativity and ease, from the most poignant lyricism to the most virtuoso improvisations. The quintet is complemented by two undisputed rising stars of the US jazz scene: Eric Wheeler, a rock-solid and propulsive double bassist, and Joe Dyson, one of the most sought-after drummers around today.
